- Functional Attributes
High fidelity audio
The audio quality on the Avaya 9600 Series sets a new standard in phone-based communications. Based on the latest VoIP chip technology, Avaya has changed the acoustic design of the phone body and handset to reduce background noise and improve audio quality. As a result, participants on calls can better hear each other. This technology eliminates repetition, reduces fatigue and improves overall communication.
With support for the open standards based G.722 wideband audio codec, along with Avaya Communication Manager integration, users are now able to hear a broader range of audio frequencies.
Cutting edge and sleek architectural design
Phone features have evolved over the years, but a complete overhaul of phone design and user interface creates a new opportunity for enhanced end user experience. The Avaya 9600 IP Telephones have been completely re-engineered to provide a professional and timeless design that delivers a new level of functionality and efficiency within, while providing visual appeal throughout.
Investment protection and flexibility for the future
The 9600 Series Telephones are designed for future growth and enhancement. The Adapter interface on the backs of the phones provide support for additional wired and wireless network environments. Beyond Gigabit Ethernet, an adapter for Bluetooth wireless connectivity is now available. The Module interface on the phones will support a growing list of devices integrated at each desktop. Beyond a 24-button expansion module, a wideband speakerphone module is also planned. The 9620, 9630/30G and 9640/40G support SIP telephony features along with additional SIP enhancements - including display of telephone "presence" of other users from the phone contact list, integration with MS Outlook calendar appointments, changeable display skins. The Modular design of the 9600 Series telephones allows customers to leverage initial phone investments with enhanced capabilities as needed in the future. This flexibility provides enhanced total cost of ownership.
- Features
Intuitive User Interface
Intuitive, context-sensitive interface is designed to facilitate confident usage by featuring context-driven menus with on-screen prompts, and enabling straightforward access to contact directory, call log and mobility features. Users have full control of conference calls, including selective drop and mute.
Easy access to common features such as Conference, Transfer, and Hold are now greatly enhanced by helpful prompts and tight integration with phone numbers in the contact list and call logs. The user interface provides easy access to critical Communication Manager features, and ultimately increases the end user's productivity.
Superior Audio Quality
The unique high-fidelity acoustics, including wideband audio in the speaker and handset, deliver industry-leading audio that minimizes ambient noise. With the enhanced audio across high and low frequencies, it is easier for users to better understand others with different speech nuances or accents. All 9600 Series telephones support wideband audio in the handset and headset. In addition, the 9630 model supports a wideband speakerphone.
Because of the enhanced audio, calls are more productive and team members are better able to collaborate. On conference calls, users find it easier to distinguish and understand multiple speakers, aiding in collaboration and communications. Overall, communications are richer.
New design and display
The phones feature improved, higher resolution displays supporting 1/4 VGA gray scale with backlighting. The 9640 model supports a high resolution display in brilliant color. A four-way navigation button cluster is another new addition to the 9600 Series telephones. This provides a familiar, cell phone-like interface for navigation and feature selections.
The new design facilitates better usage of the display, while the built-in browser improves access to information and use of telephone features.
Modules and Adapters
Based on open standards with a modular platform, the IP Telephones allow enterprises to add a wide range of modules and adapters to further enhance employee productivity. This facilitates individual choice between Bluetooth, monaural wideband, or binaural wideband headsets. Adapters for Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth are now available.
Investment protection and enhanced total cost of ownership are the key benefits. Traditionally, the only way to receive new telephone capabilities was to purchase a completely new phone. Designed with the future in mind, the 9600 Series provides a flexible approach for adding future functionality to current telephones. Beyond hardware flexibility, several of the 9600 Series models support protocol independence. The 9620, 9630/30G, 9640/40G support both H.323 and SIP.
Phone models designed for user profiles
Traditionally, desk phone design has focused on a paradigm of buttons and the size of displays. The higher the level of the intended user, the more buttons and larger displays there were, regardless of the functional needs of the individual.
Avaya one-X Deskphone Edition phones are designed specifically to meet the needs of four identified user profiles. They provide just the right level of communications capability and functionality to suit the needs of the user.
Having a match between the communication needs of the end users and the phones on their desks provides an office with great advantages. The right phone allows users to confidently, proficiently perform their jobs, and make effective use of features. Casual, everyday phone users have the base set of functionality in a smaller display with simple access to the basic features they need. Walk-up users in a building lobby need a simple phone with an intuitive, non-threatening interface. Power users, for whom the telephone is essential to perform their jobs, have a more advanced interface with larger display and higher quality speakerphone. Building receptionists and executive admin staff require one-touch access to additional bridged line appearances, feature keys and speed dials.
- Technical Specifications
The Avaya one-X Deskphone Edition of IP Telephones feature the latest in VoIP chip technology from Broadcom to support high-performance telephony, audio quality, phone applications, etc. They use the g.722 codec open standard for wideband audio, that combined with the phone body cavity designed specifically for wideband audio, provide uncompromised sound quality. Additional enhancements include Gigabit Ethernet and WML browsers embedded within phone displays, along with PUSH API for the creation of phone applications built directly into some models. Beyond h.323, SIP support is available on the 9620, 9630/30G and 9640/40G.

Software Requirements
Avaya Communication Manager Rel 3.0 or greater
- Avaya one-X Deskphone Edition IP Telephones require Avaya Communication Manager 3.0 or later.

- Reliability and Performance
Reliability Overview
The Avaya one-X Deskphone Edition (9600 Series IP Telephones) support VLAN separation to ensure that traffic from an attached PC cannot get onto the voice VLAN. This also assures any traffic on the data VLAN does not affect telephone operation or voice quality. The VLAN ID and Quality of Service priority of frames transmitted by an attached PC can be "re-marked" with specific administered values. Avaya telephones are designed to meet extraordinary performance standards and provide high reliability, full features for users, and the QoS capabilities that help deliver a consistently satisfying call experience.
- Security
Security Features
The 9600 Series IP Telephones are designed to continue to function, even during active calls in the event of a denial of service attack.
The 9600 Series telephones authenticate all downloaded software via a digital signature to ensure that only authentic Avaya software is ever installed in the telephone.
The 9600 Series telephones support several modes of 802.1X operation that include supplicant operation for true authentication of the telephone, pass-through of 802.1X messages for authentication of an attached PC, and a multi-supplicant mode in which both the telephone and the PC can be authenticated.
Proxy-logoff is supported to alert the network if an authenticated PC is disconnected from the telephone.
